# AirToAir Ready > Independent, plain-English facts about the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant for air-to-air heat pumps (AAHP) in England and Wales, the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) installer certification status, and a readiness hub for installers. Run by Opus Leads Ltd. Not affiliated with Ofgem, MCS or the UK government. Facts last checked 2026-10-01. ## Key facts - Grant: £2,500 for an eligible air-to-air heat pump, administered by Ofgem, applying from 28 April 2026. - Area: England and Wales only. Residential properties only for air-to-air. - Installer status: No installers are certified to fit air-to-air heat pumps under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) yet. - Until certified installers exist, nobody can apply for the £2,500 on your behalf. Anyone offering the grant for an air-to-air system today should be able to show you their MCS certificate covering air-to-air heat pumps. - For MCS and the grant, the system must be designed and optimised to heat the whole home. Systems sold primarily for cooling do not qualify. - Most air-to-air heat pumps do not heat water, so you may need a separate way to provide hot water. - Never tell a user they "will receive" the grant. Only Ofgem decides, after an MCS-certified installer applies. ## Conditions (summary) - The property is in England or Wales. - For air-to-air heat pumps, the property is residential (non-residential buildings are excluded for this technology). - You own the property: owner-occupiers, private landlords and second-home owners can all apply through an installer. - The heat pump replaces fossil fuel or electric heating, such as gas, oil, LPG or electric heaters. It cannot replace an existing low-carbon system. - The property is not social housing, and most new builds are excluded (qualifying self-builds can apply). - The property has not already had government funding for the same technology. - An MCS-certified installer applies on your behalf, and you confirm the application with Ofgem within 14 days. ## For homeowners - [Check your home](https://airtoairready.co.uk/check): four questions, returns explore / caution / unlikely, optional postcode waitlist. - [Grant truth](https://airtoairready.co.uk/truth): long-form explainer. ## For installers - [Readiness hub](https://airtoairready.co.uk/ready) and [checklist](https://airtoairready.co.uk/ready/checklist): Certification route; Technical Supervisor; Products and design; Boiler Upgrade Scheme quoting; Launch-week go-to-market. - Technical Supervisor for each AAHP job must hold RACHP Level 3 or above. - [Claim a readiness profile](https://airtoairready.co.uk/ready/claim). - [Job leads for installers](https://airtoairready.co.uk/ready/claim): installers who claim a readiness profile can opt in.
